First run
Two words: it sucked.
I managed to run the first 10 minutes before having to start punctuating my running with bouts of walking (about 1 minute each) because it hurt. However, I was pretty happy that I managed to run the last 5 to 10 minutes - I was walking and realized that the reason I wasn’t running wasn’t because I was still hurting (which I consider a valid reason to walk) so much as I was just bored of running (which is not such a valid reason). So I forced myself to run the rest of the way home.
I checked it out online and I did 6km. Which I guess is really not that much, but it’s a start!

That is fabulous! It was just a few months ago when I had my first run and felt the same. Now I can’t get enough. I found that balancing out running with yoga really helped. It gets better, really.

PS> What if you ‘planned’ on walking a few bouts for your first few runs? We trained for an entire marathon this way….. There’s a tonne of research on the benefits of run-walk training. Check it out…. See how Tens-and-Ones work for you. (Run 10 minutes then Walk 1 minute - Repeat.) You will be SURPRISED at how far you can go this way — AND how quickly you increase your fitness level. Just a thought……….
